The IIChE has been conducting the Associate Membership Examination since 1960. It is held two times a year - in March and September at 12 centres across the country. The examination is meant for those working in chemical and allied industries, who have a diploma in engineering or a degree in science but who do not have a degree in Chemical Engineering. This examination offers them an opportunity to qualify as chemical engineers. It is recognized by the Government of India and most of the public and private sector undertakings for the purpose of recruitment to superior posts and services, for which a degree in Chemical Engineering is considered to be a qualification.

The examination consists of three parts (Part I, Part IIA and lIB, Part no, which have to be cleared within a maximum period of 10 years from the date a candidate registers himself! herself. The syllabus of the examination is exhaustive and it is updated at regular intervals to maintain its compatibility to the fast changing scenario.
