Hyderabad Regional Center

The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (lIChE), with its Head office at Kolkata and its 44 Regional Centers as well as 172 Student Chapters spread throughout the country, holds National and International conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings so that its members can learn and understand nuances of chemical engineering and technologies by interacting among themselves. Major goals of the lIChE are to promote the advancement of Chemical Engineering Sciences and maintain professional standards among its members. Further, it acts as an authoritative body on matters concerning the teaching and the profession of chemical engineering as well as publishes journal, newsletter, monographs, proceedings of conferences/seminars/workshops etc. .

Hyderabad Regional Centre (HRC) of the IIChE with its office at 3-6-237/611, La'BuiIde, Lingapur House, Himayat Nagar, Hyderabad has been involved in many activities such as organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, lectures, panel discussions and conducting industrial tours etc. relevant to Chemical Engineering professionals and students. HRC has continuously been augmenting its resources and capabilities to serve its members whether in traditional sectors or in sectors based on emerging technologies. The HRC confers awards to recognize professionals for their contributions to realize the vision of IIChE / IIChE -HRC..

HRC has successfully conducted 5 Annual Sessions of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers / Indian Chemical Engineering Congress (CHEMCON) in the years 1953, 1970, 1986, 2002 and 2020 respectively. CHEMC0N-2002 conducted by the HRC under the stewardship of Dr. K. Anji Reddy, Dr. K. V. Raghavan and Prof. S. Venkateshwar was a trendsetter in many ways and was a grand success. Recently, 73rd CHEMCON-2020 Jointly organized by IIChE Head Quarters and IIChE-Hyderabad Regional Centre under the leadership of Prof. V. V. Basava Rao, Dr. Sanjay Bhardwaj and Dr. Avijit Ghosh was a grand success, and once again demonstrated the organizational capabilities of the HRC. IIChE-HRC received Best Regional Centre Award (Category “A”) in the years 2019 and 2021 for its accomplishments.

HRC conducts annual Memorial Lecture in memory of visionary industrialist Sri M.P. Chary from the year 2008. Sri M. Anantha Chary, CMD, Elbit Medical Diagnostic Limited has instituted endowment fund with HRC for the promotion and awareness of chemical engineering and to provide a platform for exchange of ideas in memory of his father Late Sri M.P. Chary. So far, 15 eminent professionals from academia, industry and R & D have delivered M.P. Chary Memorial Lectures.

HRC has IIChE student chapters at Anurag University, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani – Hyderabad campus, Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), JNTU College of Engineering Anantapur (JNTUA), JNTU College of Engineering Hyderabad (JNTUH), National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW), Padmasri Dr. B.V. Raju Institute of Technology (BVRIT), Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) Basar, University College of Technology – Osmania University (UCT -OU) (alphabetically listed). IIChE - HRC confers prizes for winners of essay writing, elocution, technical quiz, and scientific model making competitions held annually for 9 IIChE Student Chapters associated with it. Best student awards are presented to the students selected by each of the 9 engineering colleges. Students’ prizes and awards are conferred with endowment schemes of Dr. B.V. Raju, Sri Allam Pandu, Prof. V. Gopalakrishna, and Sri S.M. Rao. Students’ Indian Chemical Engineering Congress (SCHEMCON) have been successfully conducted by JNTU College of Engineering Anantapur (2006) and B.V. Raju Institute of Technology Medak (2016) student chapters, associated with the IIChE – HRC. SCHEMCON 2022 is being conducted by NIT Warangal student chapter in association with the IIChE – HRC during 23rd and 24th September 2022.

IIChE – HRC organized / facilitated several programs to boost academia –industry – R & D connect, thereby bridge gap between stakeholders of chemical sector. To celebrate Platinum Jubilee (75th) Year of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), IIChEHRC took the initiative of starting a lecture series and has plans to involve all the student chapters in organizing the lecture series. Purpose of such IIChE – HRC programs was to expose chemical engineering students to industry practitioners, keep them motivated towards acquisition of required skills and knowledge, and provide them learning opportunities. These programs had enthusiastic participation of chemical engineering students from several IIChE Regional Centres (including students of 9 engineering colleges associated with IIChE – HRC). Participation from all over the country was possible since programs were conducted in online / hybrid mode. The success of the IIChE – HRC Lecture Series was made possible largely due to the significant effort put in by the distinguished speakers in delivering comprehensive lectures followed by interesting interactive sessions. Speakers (from Multinational Companies, Indian reputed companies and widely acclaimed start-ups) inspired the participants, mainly students, by sharing their vision and insights. To accelerate efforts in the direction of academia –industry – R & D connect, following committee has been constituted: Dr. Sanjay Bhardwaj {Chairman, IIChE – HRC}, Dr. Ravi Chandra Palaparthi {Convener, Academia –Industry – R & D Interaction, IIChE – HRC}, Dr. M. Mukunda Vani {Convener, IIChE –HRC Student Chapters}, and Dr. S. Ilaiah {Hon. Regional Secretary, IIChE – HRC}. Dr. Rajesh Goyal {Patent Intelligence Manager, Solvay} and Dr. Alan Ranjit Jacob {Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad} have agreed to support the IIChE –HRC’s initiative of academia –industry – R & D connect.

Following thematic groups have been identified for focussed efforts to cater to the professional needs of its members and emerging societal expectations:
